Streets of Rage 2’s 25th Anniversary!

As side scrolling beatem-ups are hands down my all time favourite genre and the main aspect that inspired me to make Wulverblade, it only seems fitting to say a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to one of best!

The amazing cover art from back in the day. In this version we can see the extended area to the left that 'could' have spanned to the rear cover.

One of my most vivid memories was seeing Streets of Rage running on my friends brand new Sega Mega Drive and instantly falling in love. That amazing classic then spawned its sequel in 1992 in the shape of Streets of Rage 2. Again this series managed to blow me and every other Mega Drive gamer away just as it the did first time around. The art direction, the music, the gameplay, they all came together perfectly to create a true classic.

My beloved copy of Streets of Rage 2

Between this incredible title, Golden Axe and the amazing Capcom CPS brawlers, they all filled my imagination and kick started my dreams to one day make my own. I can’t believe that now, 25yrs later I’ve fulfilled that dream and created Wulverblade. I have to pinch myself at times when I stop to realise that my 25yr long dream is now out on none other than the Nintendo Switch. If I hopped into a time machine and told my 14yr old self that I’d done this 25yrs in the future, I don’t think I’d have believed myself. Its literally a dream come true.

Wulverblade's 'research material' ha haa

2018 will see us bring Wulverblade to Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Steam. I truly hope and dream that some younger players will experience Wulverblade and take away memories of it that I did with this series. That’d be amazing.

As you can see here, I’ve been collecting all things Streets of Rage for many years, I just adore this series. Thanks Sega, you were legendary back in the 90’s and those memories will be with me forever!

Happy Birthday Streets of Rage 2!
