Darknet was officially my first VR project which was initially bound for Oculus Rift but then moved over to PSVR, Gear VR, Daydream and Vive too. It was a fabulous project to be part of and one I’ll never forget. To see my game concepts, UI and brand all pop within virtual reality was a pretty magical experience.
Darknet is a strategy/puzzle game in which you play as an elite hacker contracted to retrieve data from the world’s most secure networks. Plug into the Net, install viruses, inject code, and tunnel through cyber-security in an experience inspired by the classic cyberpunk vision of the future. All this was screaming out for a neon rich sci-fi vibe and it all fell into place wonderfully. I was tasked with creating the branding, the styling for the main game experience and also concepts for the UI too.
When creating a logo and overarching brand identity it is key to create an entire package that encompasses every element that the end user will ever encounter. Its essential that a brand design goes beyond just a logo or icon and becomes almost an entity and ethos in its own right. The combined elements that make up the brand must communicate the core values of the company or product and become instantly recognisable as part of the brand as a whole.
